Okay so. Having watched those X-Men movies I noticed that Magneto and Grindelwald (sorry for referencing JKR's IP) are REALLY similar characters; they're both extremists advocating for their minority group, going against a pacifist former lover close friend who together with they were the two most powerful fictional-minority-people, and of Germanic origin.
I began to tell my family about this realization at dinner, and my mom agreed, noting "they both betrayed and fought against their good friend, like Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek" šŸ’€šŸ’€
me: "implying Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek are doomed yaoi??" my brother: "I don't think she picked up on the innuendos..."
(For those who don't know, Mao and Chiang graduated from the same military academy in the same year. (not friends.))
But my dad also did not realize that the shipability was core to the relationships of the two fictional characters and said, "No, I think it's a valid comparison, same thing as Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant." (I think my family may have misinterpreted some signs at Fort Tejon??? I found a National Park Service page that says they met ONCE before the Civil War. Perhaps my dad simply meant to reference that the soldiers stationed at Fort Tejon before the war split up and fought for both sides, and got confused since Lee was mentioned at Fort Tejon (he did not actually say Grant's name, my brother suggested it).)
So that was family dinner šŸ’€ Mao Zedong X Chiang Kai-shek and Robert E. Lee X Ulysses Grant, I GUESS. šŸ¤·

The USS Constitution (aka Old Ironsides), the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat,* and a U.S. submarine, in 1916.
This photo was taken by Leslie Jones, the long-time photographer for the Boston Herald-Traveler. The caption reads: ā€œOld and new at Boston Navy Yard, latest class submarine alongside Old Ironsides on Navy Day 1916.ā€ Boston Public Library Collection.
* Launched in 1797, the Constitution is still afloat and still crewed by active-duty U.S. Navy sailors. It is berthed at the former Charleston Navy Yard, Boston and welcomes more than 500,000 visitors a year.

"I am yours and you are mine and of this there is no doubt. You are imprisoned in my heart, the little key has been lost and now you must remain there forever and ever." -Alejandra Fyodorovna Romanova/Alix of Hesse-Darmstadt
ā€œHow sad to be forced to stay away from her for so long -he writes- Being together is wonderful, a real paradise". - NikolĆ”i AleksĆ”ndrovich RomĆ”nov
These are quotes from letters of my two favorite lovebirds, taken from the book "Nicholas and Alexandra: Love and Death in Imperial Russia", written by ROBERT K. MASSIE. Every time I read this book I end up with a heavy heart, either because of the beautiful relationship they had or because I end up sad because of some mistake that led to their execution in a filthy cellar.
Since I began to love this historical couple, I have searched for some visual medium to move me and although there are photos of the two of them to say the least, the truth is that there are few where they show their love since most of them are formal due to the time and their position. as tsar and tsarina of Russia, but there is almost no content that visually shows that love that is so talked about in movies, series, documents, and historians.
I have already ordered a commission to be made in search of moving me and although I appreciate the work of that friend, it is not what I was looking for while the AI, although it touched my heart, lacked that spark that would make me review in the blink of an eye what those little letters and historical information have brought me so much... Until today...
Lately I have been feeling very inspired by this couple and based on this, the beautiful @littlecarnetĀ she has given me this beautiful gift that not only gave me what I have been looking for so much, but has also created two lethal weapons of love that killed me with a bullet, now I am dead and I write it from a heart that exploded for so much beauty.I wonder now, if they had had the opportunity to have the internet and meet this beauty, what would they have thought and done? Based on what I have read and a little of what I have done with my CH comic, I imagine they were impressed, moved, you had this upholstered to hang it in a palace like a real painting and they gave a heartfelt thank you to the artist...But since sadly they are no longer here, I feel obliged to thank this gift with all my heart and go to fine arts to demand that they expose this beauty. Meanwhile today and in a month or more I will appreciate this with all my heart because this is a treasure...Ā
THANK YOU SO MUCH SABINE!!!, YOU ARE THE BEST, PEOPLE AND ARTISTS LIKE YOU ARE WORTH EVERYTHING!!!, YOU HAVE MY ABSOLUTE ADMIRATION AND GRATITUDE!!!

5/5 read, but this guy always nails it with his attention to detail and writing style. Things I enjoyed or thought about while reading Left for Dead by Eric Jay Dolan:
1( The initiation for sailors who had never crossed the Northern hemispheres into the Southern hemispheres. The ritual involves a crewman dressing up as Neptune to induct the newbies into the ā€œSolemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deepā€.
2( How many animals and plants have gone extinct or had to evolve their behavior because of wanton sailors?
3( There is a lighthouse on the coast of Marthaā€™s Vineyard named Gay Head Light.
4( Joseph Holt. He was an Irish farmer accused of being a rebel during the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Basically the English banished him as a convicted felon after they seized his assets and burnt his house down without verifying shit. He actually turned into a rebel after that, and was a major character within this story about the ship.
5( When a British crewmate tried to ask a Spanish sailor if Britain and Spain were friends and the Spanish sailor simply said, ā€œNoā€ before informing them they were about to get surrounded šŸ’€
6( Falkland strawberries and scurvy grass are actually really pretty and I think theyā€™d make some great traditional style tattoos

Historical Crush AU
When Damian was younger he was told of a being that is a threat to the League that had appeared throughout history. It was Danny, dealing with his Time God Chores. Damian never told anyone that he had a crush on the being when he was younger, wishing that a hero would come and save him.
So to say he was surprised that his childhood crush was introduced as a new Justice League member was an understatement.

Hi! Do you have a list of historical f/f romances? I have read all historical f/f by Olivia Waite, Annick Trent, KJ Charles, Cat Sebastian, and Jess Everlee, and i canā€™t seem to find any others! (Also read Freya Marskeā€™s historical fantasy). I love historical queer romance and I donā€™t mind reading mainly m/m (or other queer pairings) but Iā€™d really like to get some more f/f in the mix!
Well you've mentioned the big names in this ask (and mentioned Sarah Waters in your second ask) so I asked around on my main first and received two recs from @strinak which were The High Priestess by Parhelion on AO3 (it was originally a novel published by Torquere) and Romancing the Inventor by Gail Carriger.
There are some historicals here under the ship type f/f tag, though some might be considered f/nb as well as I can recall.
I've also recced a shorter historical f/f here which is also under that tag. And have read some on AO3 as well, though the only ones I can think of offhand were written by KannaOphelia
But if anyone here has any more, feel free to comment or reblog with a comment (or submit it as a post, so I can officially tag it.)
